Wildfire Prep Day is a success!
/Neighbors all around Scenic Estates participated in Wildfire Community Preparedness Day on May 2, gathering woody debris to be chipped. Then on May 4, Taylor and Graham of Timber Tree Service worked the whole day to get it done. This was one of the largest wildfire fuel reduction projects Scenic Estates has completed since becoming a Firewise Community in 2003.

Working together to make a difference for the survival of our homes and neighborhood if a wildfire occurs.
182 cubic yards of branches and limbs were converted to chips. That’s over two full rail cars of wildfire fuel that is now mulching and replenishing the soil. Most of the chips were sprayed back to the places the wood originally came from.

Being a Fire Adapted Community means recognizing that wildfire occasionally happens on our island, and that we acknowledge that and adapt to it. The Lummi Island Fire Department recently joined the Washington Fire Adapted Community network (WAFAC), enabling the island to access a wealth of wildfire knowledge across the state, as well as funding for this project.
The chipping service was provided no-charge, while the time and money spent by households to get limbs cut and stacked counted as matching in-kind services for this grant project.
We are doing it again!
Scenic Estates will be doing a second chipping day in summer 2020. Specifics will be announced here on LISECC.com.
